Highlights:The Beacon Hill/Back Bay Food Tour is one of our most popular tours.  On this tour, we  explore two of Boston’s historic neighborhoods. Featured is the restaurant of  one of the country’s “Coolest” “Top 10 Bad-ass Female Chefs”, whose lobster pizza was recently voted as one of the top ten pizzas in Massachusetts by Food Network magazine and Zagat.  Recent celebrity sightings at this restaurant include Matt Damon, Tom Hanks and Lionel Richie.  Also included is a  ”Best of Boston” chocolate winner,  as well as a “Hall of Fame” gluten-free chowder or a “presidential” chowder.  Or “chowdah”, as we like to say.  And we hope you won’t mind if we make a quick stop to visit one of Boston’s popular food trucks, maybe even a local competition winner.  Deviled tea eggs or banh mi, anyone?  But that’s not all.  We’ll visit a Boston breakfast institution that has seen the likes of  Ryan Reynolds, Jack Nicholson, Ben Stiller and Kevin Costner,  as well as a notorious murderer.  We’ll also introduce you to a few hidden gems, such as a fabulous, new wine and cheese shop that’s off the beaten path, and  Oprah’s favorite, go-to gift basket provider.  It’s been featured in her magazine twice!  And we bet you won’t won’t to leave one of our favorite stops: a balsamic vinegar and olive oil bar!  And how could we forget Julia Child’s personal market?  She’d never forgive us!   Before we part, we’ll enjoy some of Boston’s best desserts, perhaps the creations of award-winning or celebrity chefs.  Maybe even a Top Chef!

Haley House Event: Gospel Jamboree & Jerk Chicken Cook-Off! August 18, 2012 3-7 pm

Come out and feed your belly and your soul on August 18^th, 2012 from 3-7 pm!

Haley House will be hosting, Dudley Square’s Common Thread Coalition’s First Annual SummerFeast, a Gospel Jamboree & Jerk Chicken Cook-off Contest in the parking lot of Haley House.

Tickets are only $5.00 and can be purchased at A Nubian Notion (146 Dudley Street, Roxbury – ticket hotline: 617 442 4425), Haley House Bakery Café (12 Dade Street, Roxbury), and Vaughn Fish & Chips (1 Erie Street, Dorchester).  NOTE: some locations may charge a small service fee.

SummerFeast kicks off the monthly series: “Roxbury Night Lights” featuring affordable, family-friendly events to promote Dudley Square!

Stanley Porter, a local, talented singer-songwriter, and artist from Revere, MA will be featured at the Gospel Jamboree.

Local chefs will participate in the jerk chicken challenge.  Attendees will vote for the “People’s Choice” and chosen judges will decide upon the overall winner of the title: “Best Jerk Chicken”!

Confirmed Judges: Felix Arroyo, Rose Arruda, Kalila Barnett, Kelley Chunn, Rep. Gloria Fox, Councilor Tito Jackson, Derek Lumpkins, Sibu Malaba, Darryl Settles, Joyce Stanley, Mary Tuitt, Darnell Williams, Nicola Williams, and Pat Williams.

Participants include: Haley House Bakery & Café, Pepperpot, Country Kitchen, Irie, Preparations, Perry’s Gourmet, Shawn Jenkins, Evereth Stephens, and Audley Mills.

MASSART’s Sparcmobile will provide creative opportunities for the young and young at heart – along with other activities.

What is Dîner en Blanc?


At the last minute, the location is given to thousands of friends and acquaintances who have been patiently waiting to learn the “Dîner en Blanc's” secret place. Thousand of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.

What a fabulous idea!  So mysterious and swanky!


Over the course of an evening, the diners enhance the function and value of their city's public space by participating in the unexpected.
Beyond the spectacle and refined elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by a love of beauty and good taste.

Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event.

There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic, except for the occasional amazed and astonished looks from passersby at the scene unfolding before them. And we, as they, wonder whether it's all not a dream…

Born 24 years ago in Paris...

Launched with just a handful of friends by François Pasquier over 20 years ago, Paris' Dîner en Blanc now assembles nearly 15,000 people each year. The French capital's most prestigious sites have played host to it: the Pont des Arts, the Eiffel Tower site, the Louvre Pyramid, the Trocadéro Esplanade, Place Vendôme, the Château de Versailles, the Esplanade de Notre-Dame, the Esplanade des Invalides, the periphery of the Place de l'Étoile, the Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde and last year: The Carousel du Louvre. The Paris police tend to tolerate this ‘wild' gathering, if not perhaps even wishing they could join in! 
 
Dîner en Blanc Boston will be held at a secret location (announced 48 hour prior) on August 16th.
