Bon Me Food Truck + West Bridge Restaurant Fusion Pop-up Picnic, Ring's Fountain, Rose Kennedy Parkway

On Wednesday, August 29th from 5-9 pm at Rings Fountain @The Rose Kennedy Greenway (Atlantic Ave & Milk Street), the talented folks at Bon Me Food Truck  teamed up with French Chef Matthew Gaudet of West Bridge (Kendall Square, Cambridge) to deliver a 4 course Vietnamese-French fusion mid-scale picnic style meal!

Tickets cost $15 when purchased ahead of time, and were $18 at the event.

The Bon Me truck is best known for their amazing banh mi sandwiches, spicy deviled tea eggs and spicy ginger lemonade!
Not quite the 'event' I was expecting as the crowd remained pretty thin throughout the night.
I found the food to be a bit lackluster, with the highlights being the tenderness of the braised beef tongue on the sandwich and the dessert. The service however, was great...as usual!

Pork butter crostini topped with a minced ginger? and microgreensI did enjoy the pork butter...I mean, who wouldn't!?!

The bok choy slaw was pretty bland. The best part of this dish was the sparse crackled pork skin pieces.  I couldn't used a bit more of those to make the dish more interesting and add a bit more flavor.

The braised beef toungue banh mi topped with kimchi
Coconut amaranth pudding topped with pineapple.
This was pretty good...and different!

At the end of the day, I expected much more of the fusion of two powerhouses.  I think keeping them separate on their own turfs will suffice.
