Brunch @ Barcelona Brookline, 1700 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA

A few months ago, I reviewed a magnificent dinner at Barcelona Tapas & Wine Bar (sadly sans pictures).  You can read that review, here.  I was excited to make my way back, this time for brunch.

My mother was visiting from South Florida and we decided to stay relatively close to home for a quick brunch.

We began with a few lovely cheeses:

On the left: Cabra de Romero, a creamy, mild goat cheese with fresh rosemary on the rind
Middle: Aged Mahon.  This cow’s milk cheese is from Minorca - a cheddar-esque cheese, it is slightly salty.  The texture is flaky, yet firm with mild nutty, tangy flavor.
Right: Drunken Goat. Semi-firm goat's cheese soaked in Monstrell (Spanish varietal).  It bears sexy burgundy-mahogany colored, striated rind reminiscent of aged leather.  It's a creamy, almost opal shaded very mildly and smoky cheese with subtle fruitiness (grape notes).

The skirt steak with chimichurri, onion and potato, and egg was delicious.  The steak was cooked perfectly medium seasoned with a nice chimichurri and a generous portion of potatoes.

Since I fell in love with the lobster fideos during dinner a few months back, I ordered this "off-menu".  This time it was served with beautiful jumbo shrimp.

We also tried the spinach-chickpea cazuela seasoned with cumin and roasted garlic - a really nice combination of flavors.

I enjoyed the sweet and spicy eggplant caponata with roasted red peppers, basil and parsley.

One of my favorite Spanish tapas dishes is patatas bravas and Barcelona's does them very well!  Patatas bravas are fried home fries cut potatoes topped with spicy tomato and crema sauces.
